Champagne Ruinart
The House of Ruinart traces its history back to the very origins of Champagne. At the beginning of the 18th Century Dom Thierry Ruinart, a Benedictine Monk and well-known scholar, was able to watch at the nearby Abbey of Hautvillers the work of his friend and fellow Benedictine, Dom Pérignon, from whom he learnt the secret of “the wine which sparkles”. Dom Ruinart confided his knowledge to his nephew, Nicolas Ruinart, who in 1729 founded the first Champagne House.
